Workshop Leader - Richard Howard
Richard Howard
Richard was raised in Sarnia and began his work in community theatre there, acting and directing at a very young age. His professional career began as an actor at the Stratford Festival, which included their Toronto and Broadway production of Tamburlain the Great and their highly acclaimed film version of Oedipus Rex, under the direction of Sir Tyrone Guthrie, first Artistic Director of that Festival. He continued acting in theatre, film, television and radio until his passion for directing became foremost in his work. Since that time Richard has directed over 500 productions, including 100 productions for Pull-Chain Theatre, his own theatre company. Plays he has directed have garnered over 200 awards. He has taught acting and directing in England, France, Australia, the United States and Canada, including over 50 communties in Ontario alone.
Mr. Howard is a member of the Theatre Ontario Talent Bank and his work as an adjudicator is widely recognized. He is a member of the Canadian Actors' Equity Assoc. and the American Actor's Equity Assoc. both as an actor and director. Richard was married to Academy Award and Tony Award winning international actress of stage and film, Lila Kedrova, for 32 years, spending ten of those years living in Paris. Ms. Kedrova was the last living member of the famed Moscow Art Theatre and his work is dedicated to her. Many citations and awards have been presented to Richard Howard, including: the CHUM Award for his cultural contribution to the City of Toronto, the Edgar Stone Trophy for his contribution to classical theatre, the Maggie Bassett Award for his contribution to theatre in Ontario, the Michael Spence Award for his Innovative and Professional contribution to community theatre in Ontario, and the City of Sault Ste.
